Is your mobile phone an absolute necessity in your life these days? According to a survey conducted by an advertising agency on South Korean consumers aged 13-24, “depriving youngsters of what they see as a vital link to their community would be the harshest punishment.”
The report released Sunday defines the post-digital generation as “a generation born in the 1980s who have always lived in a digital culture and experience no inconvenience in expressing their feelings and needs using digital technology.”
My first mobile phone was a thing of beauty (see above image). No, there wasn’t a colour screen and you couldn’t listen to mp3’s on it, but it had a cool blinking LED and an antenna which could also be used as a lethal weapon in the hands of a trained mercenary! I don’t know about you, but I only got one when I hit University, and back then, it wasn’t an absolute necessity. We had things called payphones. Things have changed though… when did you get your first mobile phone?

I stopped using my mobile phone a few weeks ago;
It’s convienient that no one can contact me. Also saving me money.
I keep it in my bag (off) though, just incase some emergency happens..
Good on you for taking that stance. I think we shouldn’t be slaves to our devices, but make them work for us. If it cramps your style, ditch it, I say.
